Velocity Motorsports returns to VIR for a winter test - November 22, 2005

Prospect Hill, NC- The Velocity Motorsports Team returned to the track at Virginia International Raceway for the first of several winter tests for the 2006 Star Mazda season. The team would test on the historic racing venue’s north circuit for two days. Unfortunately, cold wet conditions would hamper the test on the first day and give the team limited track time. On the second day, the team would experience a drying track but continued damp conditions. This would, however, prove valuable in gaining the team some wet track setups for future events.

John Pew
2005 Star Mazda Master Series Champion

“The two day test at VIR was very successful even though the first day was heavy rain. The car felt good in the rain and inspired confidence. The second day was cold and drying and we quickly got the setup correct and lap times kept improving. Unfortunately, we had a mechanical issue as the result of a spin in the previous day’s rain. However, I feel confident the car was right there and Ian, my engineer, did a fantastic job getting the setup correct.”

“My goal for next year is to repeat as Masters Champion and to finish higher than my 15th place last year. I am looking forward to Sebring and a special thanks to NVG Residential, my sponsor.”

Ian Macpherson
Team Engineer

“While our first winter test was held in wet and cold conditions, the test identified a number of valuable set-up issues for wet weather running. This gave John more seat time in ever changing and challenging race conditions.”

“Our goal for 2006 is to repeat with John as the Masters Champion and to finish higher in the overall standings. As Mark Patterson is only racing a partial season due to his commitments in the Rolex Sports Car Series, we will provide him with a car that rewards him with higher individual results than in 2005.”
